Today's question: We all know that sometimes, the worlds we love in fiction can be dangerous. Which fictional worlds would you want to live in? Which worlds do you never want to dive into? Which worlds are you content to stay behind the glass, so to speak, rather than wishing to dive through the page? And once you get there, what would you do?
This question is pretty easy for me. And I'm sure the answers for which world to live in will be pretty universal. I mean, who doesn't want to live in Harry Potter world and go to Hogwarts for school? This is why I took an adult vacation to HP land in Orlando, FL. I've been meaning to do a bigger post on going there, so maybe it's time :-) Anyway, getting to use the interactive wands at the park was super fun and pretty darn amazing since you have to do the spell properly for it to work, and they are hidden all over the park. I recommend any HP fan to go there when they can!
As to which worlds I wouldn't want to go to, that's pretty much most of my reading as I love dystopian YA, my standard fare. So worlds like in Hunger Games, Divergent, Matched, etc, are worlds I'm okay with never setting foot on, but perusing from a distance is totally fine by me! My latest favorite dystopian is The Winner's Curse trilogy, which I highly recommend to everyone, but again, I don't really want to live in.

My DAY 4 BEA ARMCHAIR POST
Oh I love YA dystopians, picking just one is hard. I loved Terra by Gretchen Powell and need to continue that series. Orleans was fantastic and I wish that had a series. I finished Under The Never Sky series, which kept up the high expectations all the way though.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, there is not a dystopian world that I would like to live in. I love reading dystopian books (The Hunger Games, Divergent, The Book of Ivy are my favorites), but the world itself is always depressing, so I'd rather not live there. :)
ReplyDeleteGirl Against the Universe sounds really good. I love the premise and it sounds like the main character is really quirky.
ReplyDeleteI thought about adding Harry Potter to my list, but while there is so much stuff I love there's a lot of scary stuff there too lol. I don't know if I'm brave enough :P
ReplyDeleteI agree, dystopian novels are fun to read, but wouldn't want to be there. I'm giving away some reading swag. Girl Who Reads
ReplyDeleteIsn't HP world awesome. It's my favorite place to visit. I'd love to live in Kate Daniels world.
ReplyDeleteI love The 5th Wave series because I've always found alien invasions fascinating and the whole wave aspect of it really intrigues me!
ReplyDeleteI am so so excited to read GATU, because I've heard that it deals with the issue of anxiety really well. Being a suffer of anxiety, it's really difficult to find good representation. :-)
ReplyDeleteI love dystopian books! A couple of my favourite dystopian worlds are Kass Morgan's The 100 and Julie Charbonneau's The Testing...both great! I think it's the post-apocalyptic worlds that I love most...seeing how we manage to come back from such destruction. Although I'm always disappointed with how small the "world" is...it's like I'm sure people in Europe and Australia and Japan survived too. Not just the North East US! Now I really want a dystopian book set in Australia! Is it out there already?
ReplyDeleteI have read some of Paula's other books and have really enjoyed them. So far, I have been able to read one a summer and would love to continue the tradition with Girl Against the Universe!

I'm not a huge dystopian reader but if I had to choose a world which I most enjoy reading about it would be that of Unwind by Neal Shusterman because the idea that a child's life is completely in the hands of their parents and what those parents are able to decide for their children really intrigues me. It's such a scary orld but an interesting one to read about.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite dystopian world setting is The one on the throne of glass series but I would love to live in hogwarts because Harry potter is my favorite series since I was a little girl and it's a much calmer setting
