I was fortunate enough to get to go to Friday night's Trivia event at my local Barnes and Nobles for the #BFBuzz YA weekend. It was a lot of fun, but I admit I was a little embarrassed at being the only adult there with 7 very smart teens. They totally kicked my butt in Trivia! The greatest thing though was that they all loved YA as much as I did (or more!) and they knew these books inside and out. It was an absolute joy to see such smart, young women that loved reading so much. I feel like YA fiction has blossomed over the last 5 or more years, and it's great because this is the genre I wish had been around as I was growing up, and now these girls have it. One day I'll be able to introduce YA lit to my little girl!
There were a ton of really great sweepstakes, and actually the odds were kind of high of winning since the event wasn't as well promoted as it could have been, and a lot of the sweepstakes were hidden like Easter eggs online, which was fine by me :-) But I don't think that will be the case in the future since this was a huge success!
There were other sweepstakes where you had to pose in certain areas and the post the picture online, either on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram. I was relieved there weren't other social media giveaways because I can barely figure out those three.
Lastly, I did a really bad cosplay job where I dressed as Lara Jean from Jenny Han's wonderful To All the Boys I've Loved Before and doing a selfie with the book was harder than I thought! Hubbie and kid were in the next door grocery store actually doing real chores while I was modeling. Ha!
I also met the great staff there. I had never realized they were so awesome, and so supportive of readers and bloggers, so the best thing was making that connection. They let me take extra swag and materials for giveaways to give to you guys! Unfortunately, there were no ARCs, but some really great samplers, a few are shown below! The sampler/swag packs in this giveaway may or may not have these items below, it just depends what I have left.
I also was able to score a copy of Stalking Jack the Ripper by the amazing Kerri Maniscalco through the publisher, and have already read and really enjoyed it, so it's time to pass it on to another blogger (US only).
I will have one of the swag packs for only INT readers as they will definitely not have had access to this great event. My other big plug is to support my local Barnes and Nobles as they did a wonderful job setting up this weekend for lovers of YA! I hope they do it again next year!

I made it to one in Baltimore, MD but I wasn't able to meet the author. I wish they had a different author all 3 days! I loved that we had a girl go over some writing techniques with us though. I never knew what a logline was before! lol
ReplyDeleteSadly, not much happens here in AL at the local B&N, but I would love to get to an event one day. The closest bookstore that does events is about 2 hours away in Decatur, GA so I will have to start planning ahead. I'm glad you had fun!
ReplyDeleteI love reading about serial killers and this would be a wonderful book to add to my collection.

Oops, forgot to answer the question. I met Alex Kava and Erica Spindler and got their autographs on some of their books. Fascinating to hear them speak. Glad you enjoyed your time there.

I actually work at a Barnes and Noble, so I was kind of in charge of running our events! We didn't get as many ARCs as it sounds like you did, so I'm a little jealous!
ReplyDeleteHow fun!! I wish the B&N near me did things like this. For the most part all they do is story time for the kiddos :/ Although next month they are doing a midnight release for the Harry Potter script thing...not sure if I'll go. Plays are meant to be watched, not read!
ReplyDeleteAlso your cosplay is adorable!
ReplyDeleteNo, I didn't attend any of the events this year. I would like Q & A sessions with authors.
ReplyDeleteI went to Barnes & Noble and spent a bunch of money but they didn't have anything for the Festival :(
ReplyDeleteSadly, I wanted to go but didn't. I would've liked to snag a copy of SJTR (my location was supposed to have them) and lots of samplers and swag!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to go but I went on Sunday and there wasn't anything left. I was super excited for SJTR
ReplyDeleteNo and I'd like to see books being promoted and discussed.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had fun at the barnes and noble book festival! It looked like a success around the country :) I'm glad to hear you enjoyed Stalking Jack the Ripper. That one I am totally eyeing! :)

I haven't been to any book events sadly cuz they don't happen here much but I guess the big thing for me to meet the authors and actually discuss their books with them.
ReplyDeleteI would love to go to a big book event one day! A girl can dream!
